- Modern Secularism: Faith and Unfaith in the Modern Age, by Denys G. M. Jackson. Australian Catholic Truth Society 1952 (No. 1153). May be read online on this page and available in PDF format on this page of Catholic Truth Society Pamphlets.
Posted on the Feast of Christ the King, and on the Memorial of the Holy Martyrs of Viet Nam, St. Andrew Dung Lac and Companions, in the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite. We also remember the surrender of Luzern in the Sonderbund War, in which Catholic Christians fought for their liberties against oppression by Protestants and Liberals (24 November 1847); the day that the Vicar of Christ, Blessed Pope Pius IX, was forced by Liberal violence to flee the city of Rome (24 November 1848); and, belatedly, the execution of Blessed Miguel Pro by Secularist enemies of God (23 November 1927). We pray for the souls of all who perished from the evils perpetrated by heresy and unbelief, and for the conversion of all unbelievers to faith in our sovereign Lord and King, Jesus Christ.
“Jesus Christ… is the Head and Supreme Lord of the race. His empire extends not only over Catholic nations and those who, having been duly washed in the waters of holy baptism, belong of right to the Church, although erroneous opinions keep them astray, or dissent from her teaching cuts them off from her care; it comprises also all those who are deprived of the Christian faith, so that the whole human race is most truly under the power of Jesus Christ. For He who is the Only-begotten Son of God the Father, having the same substance with Him and being the brightness of His glory and the figure of His substance (Hebrews i., 3) necessarily has everything in common with the Father, and therefore sovereign power over all things.” (Pope Leo XIII, Annum Sacrum, 25 May 1899)
