On the Feast of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux in the Roman Rite; and in remembrance of the Battle of Yarmuk/Yarmouk (ended 20 August 636 AD), where the Rashidun forces that invaded Christian Syria decisively defeated the East Roman (Byzantine) army. Thus began the wave of conquest that would place ancient Christian lands from Spain and Africa to Syria and Egypt in Islamic hands, whose results the Latin Christian counter-attack called the Crusades largely failed to reverse.
Let us pray that all Muslims may at last be converted to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and be baptized into His body, for the glory of God and their eternal salvation.
